Clarice Mackey Wood, 96, peacefully passed away January 27, 2017 at her home in Senoia, Ga. Clarice was born in Cordova, Ala.

After graduating from college in Texas, she married the love of her life, Bill. Their marriage of 58 years saw many adventures, starting with loading up all their belongings and heading west to begin their future. They ultimately landed in Moriarty, N.M., where they opened a garage, auto parts store and wrecker business and became an integral part of the community.

In addition to raising 3 children and supporting the family business, Clarice taught school for over 30 years. As a teacher, she positively impacted the lives of countless students. She found creative ways to get through to her students, especially those with special needs. She was passionate about helping her students achieve their full potential. After retiring from teaching, her focus turned to travel and even greater involvement in her community. She shared her love of cards with an amazing network of friends near and far.

She had a steadfast faith in God and her family and friends are comforted with the knowledge that she is with her Lord. Her strong spirit and sense of humor will be sorely missed but Clarice will continue to serve as an inspiration.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Rutledge Wood, her son, James "Jim" Robert Wood, and her daughter, Clari Louise Wood Buchanan.

She is survived by her son, William Rutledge Wood, II (Claudia) of Senoia; grandchildren Tracy Wood of Denver, Colo.; Cara Houston of Las Vegas, Nev.; Cristin Sharp (Matt) of Reno, Nev.; Sandra Milligan (Troy), Jennifer Wood and Rutledge Wood (Rachel), all of Senoia; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Saint Andrews in the Pines in Peachtree City.
