Bengal Tiger. Rescued as a cub from animal traffickers in Miami by state wildlife officers in 1987, he was the oldest Bengal Tiger in captivity. For over 20 years, he was the first star and remained the most popular animal at the Palm Beach Zoo, Florida. The park is noted for it's world-class exhibits, that included Townee's own turf, Tiger Falls, which opened in 2000. Instead of growling at handlers and visitors, 400-pound Townee craved their attention and developed an affection for humans. In 1989, Kali, a female Bengal tiger from the Knoxville Zoo moved in and the pair were partners for 13 years. They had complementary personalities and together were a crowd pleasing attraction. Kali died in 2002. Townee suffered from arthritis and kidney disease, was euthanized. His remains were cremated and the ashes of he and mate Kali was spread over their Tiger Falls enclosure.
