A Clemson College graduate, he was a member of the IPTAY Club. He attended Johns Hopkins University and did research with the Rockefeller Foundation in Africa.
He served in World War 2 as a Navy Commander in the Pacific and Caribbean areas.
He was amember of the American Public Health Association, South Carolina Public Health Association, South Carolina Association of Sanitarians, South Carolina State Employees Association, Ellenton Agricultural Association and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
