Lulu Fae White, 93, formerly of Decatur, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, at her residence at Brighton Gardens, Westlake, OH.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan, with graveside services at Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur, or The Harlan A. White Memorial Scholarship Fund, Millikin University.

Lulu was born on April 28, 1923, in Findlay, daughter of Calvin Monroe and Etha Marshall Davis. Lulu grew up in Sullivan and, after graduating from high school in 1941, worked at an attorney’s office for a short period of time and then was offered a position at the Moultrie County Farm Bureau in the insurance office. She also kept a set of books for the Moultrie Shipping Association. After a few years the office manager of the Farm Bureau resigned and Lulu was promoted to this position. She remained at the Farm Bureau until she married Harlan White on July 5, 1945, who preceded her in death on February 16, 1993. After their marriage, Lulu worked for the Wood Insurance Agency in Sullivan and at the Noel Insurance Agency in Champaign while Harlan was pursuing an accounting degree at the University of Illinois.

After Harlan’s graduation from the University of Illinois in 1947 they moved to Decatur as Harlan had accepted a position at the Decatur public accounting firm of Gauger & Diehl. Lulu decided to leave the workforce and become a homemaker shortly before her first son, James, was born in 1950.

Harlan and Lulu lived in Decatur for most of their lives except from 1968 to 1971, when Mueller Company transferred Harlan to Chattanooga, TN to manage a plant at that location. Lulu moved from Decatur to Westlake, OH in 2013 to be closer to her son, Stephen, and his family.

Lulu was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. Chapter GR. She was also involved in many civic and volunteer organizations and was a member of the Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former member of The Decatur Club and the Country Club of Decatur. She enjoyed being a homemaker, playing bridge, reading, and genealogy but, most of all, visiting with her family and many friends.

Lulu is survived by her son, Stephen (Laurie) White of Rocky River, OH; sister, Gloria (Robert) Shasteen of Sullivan; grandchildren, Brian (Dasha) White of Austin, TX, Heather (Isaac) Keever of Hollywood, MD, Kevin White of Lakewood, OH, and Trevor White of Athens, OH; and great-grandchildren, Riley White of Austin, TX, and Ava, Emma, and Nora Keever of Hollywood, MD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlan; one son, James; one grandchild, Debra; and three brothers, Russell, Darrel, and Tedd Davis.
