Robert J. Gill, age 83, of Ansonia, CT, died at Griffin Hospital. He was the widower of Jane C. Gill. He was retired from the Southern Connecticut Gas Co. and previously resided in Fairfield and Stratford. Mr. Gill was a US Army veteran of World War II, a member of Port Five Naval Veterans Association and the Bridgeport Drum and Fife Corps. He was a sports fan, especially of the Giants and Red Sox. He is survived by his nine beloved children, Robert Gill of Southbury, John Gill and his wife, Susan, of Orange, Thomas Gill of Stratford, David Gill of Stratford, Maggie DiMartino of Stratford, Susan Townsend and her husband, Jim, of Shelton, Anne Nevers and her husband, Henry, of Fairfield, Eileen Gill of Stratford and Kady Hovan and her husband, Christopher, of Ansonia; 16 grandchildren, Joseph DiMartino, Stacey Platt, Lisa Caturano, Henry Nevers, Julia Townsend, Melissa Leffert, Diana Gill, Meghan Gill, Jillian Bass, Christopher Hovan, Adam Hovan, Ryan Hovan, Kelly Hovan, Suzanne Vitaletti, Robert Gill and Emily Gill; eight great-grandchildren, Gregory Caturano, Sophia Caturano, Julia DiMartino, Alexia Maraday, James Baszo, Jane Platt, Ella Platt and Madeline Baszo; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by one brother, William Gill and four sisters, Gladys Bersin, Julia Gerrity, Mildred Zowine and Marion Gill. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. James Church, Stratford. Interment with military honors.
