Floy Louise Harvey Thurman, age 101, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Seymour.

Graveside services were held at 2 P.M. Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Oddfellow Cemetery in Seymour, with Dr. David Warren, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Services were under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thurman was born November 26, 1915, to William Ebben and Auda Louise Langford Harvey, in the house built by her grandfather, William Samuel Harvey, in Southeast Seymour near the Seymour Creek. She married Leo Curtis Thurman on January 2, 1937 in Frederick, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1974.

Mrs. Thurman had many interests – she loved television, books, magazines, newspapers and crossword puzzles. She learned all kinds of handwork from her mother and 3 years of sewing in high school, but her favorite was crocheting doilies – her walls in every room were hung with starched doilies. Mrs. Thurman was a very independent woman, and as long as she was able, did her own yard work, and had a beautiful lawn and flowerbeds. She was also very proud of the fact that she was able to drive her beloved “Chevy” through age 100. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rebekkah Lodge.

She is survived by her nieces, Beverly Harvey Lewis of Cypress, Texas, and Betty Thurman Welch of Seymour, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Arthur E. Harvey, and Oliver “Keg” Harvey; and a sister, Viola Pearl Ramey-Taylor.

Memorials may be made to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.
