Sergeant Benjamin Tally Dawkins was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SGT Dawkins served our country until September 6th, 1968 in Hua Nghia, South Vietnam. He was 23 years old and was not married. It was reported that Benjamin died from multiple fragmentation wounds from a mine. His body was recovered. SGT Dawkins is on panel 45W, line 049 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 4 years.
Benjamin was just an all around good guy. He loved to fish hunt & ride motorcycles. He was a standout for the local high school football team. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Dennis Dawkins, PO Box 382, Rockingham, NC.
He served with Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, "Screaming Eagles", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
