Vi, (Violet) Weiskopf age 76, of Kiel, WI passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on Feb 3, 2017 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Violet was the daughter of Arno and Myrtle (Henschel) Kraemer, born July 26, 1940 in Osman, Wisconsin. Violet graduated from Kiel High School. On June 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Lanny (Lannett) Weiskopf. As their life began together, Vi discovered she had a gift for sewing having never taken a lesson. Her sewing career began by making Barbie Doll clothes and progressed into making clothing for her children, as well as clothing alterations for others. As her talent became known to others, she was commissioned to make the mosquito costume for the Skeeter Stik commercial that ran nationally for many years. In 1966, Violet was asked by the Miss Wisconsin beauty pageant to recreate designer gowns for the contestants who did not have the funds for more expensive gowns. Traveling to Milwaukee, Vi sketched the gowns and recreated them at a more affordable cost and her creations made it as far as the first runner up that year. As her creativity and notoriety spread, Violet was making wedding gowns locally and a wedding gown producer, Edith’s Bridal in Fond Du Lac WI, approached her to make wedding gowns for them. Violet declined their offer and soon after started Vi’s Drapery Shop, creating exquisite draperies for homeowners and the Parade of Homes in Fond du Lac, WI. Vi and Lanny worked together side by side building a successful business that created a happy home life for their family, allowing Vi to be at home to meet the needs of her children as well as the neighborhood children who would gather at their 9th Street home. Her beautiful creations soon spread not only locally but extended to all parts of the country including a 2nd Vi’s Draperies franchise in Williston, North Dakota. Vi enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She and Lanny traveled often which included 14 cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, and the Mediterranean Sea. Vi and Lanny visited Italy and the Vatican, France, Greece, Spain, and Alaska. Vi’s excursions with her best friend and life partner Lanny traveled throughout the United States, and she made life-long friends throughout their travels; her infectious smile would bring smiles to others no matter where they went. Vi was not only known for being so close and loving everyone in her family unconditionally, but was there to be a support system for anyone who came to her business. Vi had a way of making everyone feel so special in their own way. She gave her support, love, and open ears to all her family and friends, and anyone that came to her shop to get work done. Everyone knew her by her smiling, optimistic, open-minded self, making her loved by everyone. Her shop was a safe-haven; anything could be conversed and she would have open arms for anyone. She will always be remembered in this way. Violet Irene Weiskopf is survived by her husband of 58 years Lanny: her four children; Wendi (Chris) Raiford of Odessa, TX; Todd (Shana) Weiskopf of Millville, NJ; Brenda (Tim) Kuchynka and Stacey (Tim) Sabish of Kiel, WI; grandchildren, Cory Mincheski of Watertown, WI, Trent Haberkorn of Waukesha, WI, Jennifer Bolin & Thomas Troyer of Lexington, KY, Lindsay Hopp of Houston, TX, Harrison Weiskopf of Millville NJ, Sydney Freis, Charlie Freis, Gabrial Sabish, and Teagan Sabish of Kiel WI; great grandchildren, Nicole Haberkorn, Ean Mincheski, McKenzie & Caleb Bolin, Daisy Rose & Jonathan Boon Troyer; brother, Stanley (Shirley) Kraemer of Illinois City, IL; sister, Kathleen (Kenny) Riesterer of Kiel, WI; sister-in-law, Joyce Polster of St. Anna, WI.
