John Edward Safick, 66, of Madison passed away unexpectedly at home, January 30, 2017.

He was born, October 28, 1950 in Painesville, Ohio the son of the late Edward Michael and Elizabeth "Betty" (Miles) Safick and had been a lifelong area resident. John attended Riverside High School. After High School John enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country for six years during the Vietnam Era.

Over the years, John worked as a truck Driver for Sidley and Midwest trucking companies. He was an avid hunter. John was a lifelong member of Perry AMVETS and former commander of the post.

Mr. Safick is survived by his wife, Janet (Ozmun); children, Joy (Derek) Moore, Holly Safick, and Dawn (Sam) Cabrera; step-daughter, Erika (Rick) Cermak; brothers, Richard and David Safick; and grandchildren, Joshua Edward Safick, Tristan Moore, Sela and Cassie Cabrera, and Logan, Luke, and Lance Cermak. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 501 E. Main St., Painesville, Ohio 44057.

Great-great-grandson of Jan Hindrik Averes/John Henry Avers (8 Oct 1830 Nordhorn, Lower Saxony, Germany--17 Nov 1916 Keyser) and Geertjen Rotgers (30 Dec 1825 Denekamp, Netherlands--26 July 1907 Newburg WV). They are buried in Damon Cemetery in Newburg.
3rd-great-grandson of Jan Harmon Averes (1785--1853) and Aele Roters (1795-1875).
