Ardith Martha Gustafson Herrema passed away February 6, 2013, in Napa, California, at age 90.

Ardith was born in Kalamazoo August 28, 1922, to Henry Gustafson and Helen Hopp Gustafson. Ardith's father died when she was five. She and her two brothers were raised by their widowed mother during the depression in a house on Austin St. near the old state hospital on Westnedge. Ardith fondly remembered acting in performances for the residents of the hospital. She attended Vine Street Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School.

She married John Herrema Thanksgiving evening 1942 at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky; they divorced in 1960. Three sons were raised in Mattawan, Martin and Portage.

Ardith was Supervisor of Office Services at the Upjohn Company for many years. After her retirement in 1983, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and then to California to help raise her grandchildren. She was always there to provide the shuttle, bake cookies, and help make the Halloween costumes. Ardith had many interests, including travel, painting, sewing, cooking, bridge and crafts of all kinds. For the last several years, she crafted thousands of holiday cards that were shipped to our armed forces overseas to be sent back to families.

Ardith was predeceased by her youngest son, Paul Herrema, of Kalamazoo; and her brothers Neil Gustafson of Kalamazoo and Gerald Gustafson of Gobles.

She is survived by sons Daniel Herrema of Roswell, Georgia, and David Herrema of Sonoma, California, and numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
