Vivian L. Keirn, 89, of Columbia City, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Miller's Merry Manor where she had been a resident since October 2016.

She was born October 7, 1927 near Pierceton in Kosciusko County, Indiana a daughter of Elmer Marion and Jessie D. (Circle) Barnhart. Her formative years were spent in the Pierceton area. She completed her education at Pierceton High School.

On March 1, 1944 she was united in marriage to Murray LeRoy Keirn. They made their home in Columbia City, Richland Township and Columbia Township before returning to Columbia City. Mr. Keirn died January 5, 1988.

A homemaker and farmer’s wife, Vivian worked at Blue Bell a short time and Columbia City Community Care Center for a year.

Surviving relatives include four children, Linda (Steve) Smith of Claypool, Phillip (Jeanne) Keirn of Pierceton, Judy Bruner of Columbia City and Thomas (Liz) Keirn of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters, Russell Barnhart, Robert Barnhart, Ruth Mitchell, Richard Barnhart, John Barnhart, George Barnhart, Willadean Adams, Lloyd "Buck" Barnhart and Frances Barnhart.

The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at South Park Annex Cemetery.
