Ivan Acord 88, of Hotchkiss passed away on Friday January 27, 2017 after a long battle with many health issues. Ivan was a retired coal miner with 32 years of service, he last worked for the Slab Fork Coal Company at Slab Fork. He was a born again Christian, and a faithful and dedicated member of Lester Baptist Church in Lester, he was faithful to fill his seat whenever the doors were open as long as his health permitted. Ivan will be greatly missed by his brothers, and sister whom he dearly loved, and a couple that he thought of as his own. Ivan was so blessed to have a loving church family they were always willing and happy to lend a helping hand no matter when or where they were called upon. The food, visits, and prayers were such a blessing to him during his time of illness.
Born November 15, 1928, at Hotchkiss he was the son of the late Clarance Frederick Acord (1905-1959) and Cora "Etter" Tedder-Acord (1908-1994). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, John Acord (Deceased); his daughter, Patty Acord-Peters (Deceased); four sisters, Ester L. Acord (1923-1924), Mary Martha Acord-Keaton (1933-2016), Margaret Ann Acord-Richards (1944-Deceased), and Ramona Acord-Keaton (1934-Deceased); five brothers: Manuel Lee Acord Sr. (1924-Deceased), Claude Acord (Deceased), Willie Acord (Deceased), Elson Acord (Deceased), and Charles Norman Acord (1950-1951); and his late wife of thirty four years, Freda Mae Meador-Bailey-Acord (1932-Deceased) whom he married on April 9, 1955 in Maben, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1955, Page 215, Application Date: April 4, 1955).
