Anne was born Anna Kathryn Dunkle, May 20, 1919, in Snake Spring Valley, Everett, Pa, at the home of her Grandmother Annie Snyder Heit. The doctor was late for the delivery, and according to family lore, Anna was not breathing. Her Grandmother opened the window to the chilly spring air, held her upside down and gave her a slap. The wailing heralded her presence in the world. John and Mary Heit Dunkle moved to Altoona, Pa with their four children, Anne, Nita, Mary and John Jr. Tragedy struck when John Jr died after an operation for a burst appendix. The three girls went on to graduate from Altoona High School and Anne went to Altoona Business School. Anne met Jack McGuire while performing in a theatre company. Their marriage produced four children, John Jr, (deceased August 6, 2015) Terry Anne, Michael O'Patrick and MariPat. Anne worked hard all her life, up to age 70, and volunteered her considerable organizational skills to the YMCA after her retirement. She also played hard, traveling with her friends on many adventures to warmer climes, including island jaunts, cruises and a trip up the Amazon River. Anne loved her grandchildren, step-grandchildren and the new generation arriving in the past few years. She is survived, in addition to her children, by grandchildren Chris Cannon, Jennifer McGuire, Lindsay McGuire Felton, and Jared McGuire. She is survived by 3 great-grandchildren. A joyful celebration of her life was held, after which she was returned to her beloved Pennsylvania mountains to rest with her parents, sister and brother.
