Edward Daniel Young, 76, of Wellington, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
On Feb. 17, 1940, Edward was born to the late Charles and Kathleen (Nee Monshower) Young in DuBois, Pa. He received his associate's degree in business from DuBois Business College. Ed also served in the Army Reserves.
Edward worked as an Air Traffic Controller in Oberlin for 14 years, and then worked at the Elyria Post Office as a mail carrier, retiring after 20 years. After his retirement, Edward worked at Weber's/ResCare in Wellington.
Ed was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Wellington Eagles Aerie 2051, served on the Wellington School Board and was active with Boy Scout Troop 414, including accompanying the troop to Seabase in 2015.
Traveling was a hobby of Ed's; he liked visiting the country, especially New York. He loved to fly and had his pilot's license. His other hobbies included camping, skiing, cars and enjoying time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (nee Monaco); children, Amy (Gene) Roberts, of New York, Susanne (Andy) Novotny, of Perrysburg and Kimberly (John Murphy) Hartman, of Huntington; grandchildren, Jacob Hartman, Justin Hartman, Jude Novotny and Brianna Roberts; brother, Harold (MaryAnn) Young, of Bradford, Pa.; sister-in-law, Jeanne Young, of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Young and daughter, Marybeth Young.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington. Friends will also be received on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 512 North Main Street, Wellington, with Rev. Cole officiating and Father Reymann assisting. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Edward can be given to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44035 or to Wellington Boy Scouts Troop 414.
