Norma E. Doering, 92, of Litchfield died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at Dassel Lakeside Community Home in Dassel. Memorial service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield with visitation at 10 a.m. Visitation was also from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Burial was in Lake Ripley Cemetery.

Norma Ella Doering, daughter of Samuel and Antonia (Goetsch) Abraham, was born Jan. 2, 1925, near Gaylord. She grew up in Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1942. During WWII she worked as a phone operator, living and working in Minneapolis during the week and traveling back home on the weekends. On June 26, 1948, she married Glen Warren Doering at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. They moved to Frederic, Wisconsin, in 1949 and Trimont, Minnesota, in 1951 where Glen managed lumber yards. In 1955, her family moved to Litchfield. She and Glen were charter members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield since 1963.

Norma's life centered around family and friends as she loved and devoted time with her children, grandchildren and extended family of brothers, sisters and in-laws. Litchfield community service was important to her as shown by her many years of involvement in the American Legion, Immanuel Lutheran Church and LWML (Lutheran Woman's Missionary League). Norma maintained friendships with her bridge club girls for 40 years, was involved in Natural Food Coop and Shaklee since the 1970's, and called on "newcomers" to Litchfield for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with Glen at the Leech Lake cabin fishing and walking. Friends knew her by always having the coffee pot on, bars or cookies to be shared, along with her "infamous" rhubarb wine which she made yearly for 50 years!

In her past five years, as she declined with dementia, she fought hard both physically and mentally but was yet a Christian witness to family and staff that cared for her. She was a bright, happy person, making the staff's day sharing a smile and positive attitude from the joy of life in the Lord.

She is survived by her children, Ray Doering, Toni (and Charles) Gay, Julie (and Keith) Hollister, Rita (and Bob) Knoll; grandchildren, Erin (and Patrick) Forster, Mike (and Sarah) Doering, Eric (and Stacey) Doering, Kristin (and Andy) Bellows, Jared Hollister, Justin Hollister, Andrea Knoll, Ana Knoll; great-grandchildren, Addie Forster, Owen Forster, Bridger, Emmy and Ty Doering; her brother, Ernie and (Vivian) Abraham; and sister, Alvira Doerre. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; daughter-in-law, Gail; sister, Dorothy; brothers, and Edgar and Alvin.
