Allen Young, whose given name was Augustus Allen Young, Jr., was called by his childhood friends, siblings and parents as “Buddy,” by his wife as “Honey,” by his children as “Daddy,” by his grandchildren as “Grandpa,“ was called by his Lord to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 25, 2016 at the age of 84. Born to the late Augustus Allen Young, Sr. & Lovey Jane Smith on July 15, 1932 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Allen was the youngest of six children and two half-sisters. He graduated Wichita Falls High School and at the age of 19, married the love of his life, Joanne Fernety in Jacksonville, Florida on July 24, 1952 and together, they had six children. Allen served in the Naval Reserves and was in sales and a sales manager for Whites and Popular Furniture, retiring after many years with Huff Furniture Galleries. His hobby and career after retirement was as “The Clock Doc.” He loved dogs, fishing, crossword puzzles, telling stories and visiting his “big sister and second mom”, Lucille.

Allen was best known as a loyal husband, a loyal son and brother. He was strong in his faith, a strong provider and strong in his love for his family. He led by example for his children and taught them much. Allen was a man who could fix or build just about anything and when asked how he learned to do it, he would say, “It’s just common sense.”

Along with his parents, Allen was preceded in life by three half-sisters: Ptelea Hall and husband Forrest, Hazel Kirby and husband Dexter, Eryle Ritchie and husband Boyd; brothers: George Young and wife Paula, Frank Young and wife Leona; sisters: Mozelle Kennedy and husband John, Mary Skinner and husband O. D.; brother-in-law: March Walker.

Allen is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne Young; sister: Lucille Walker of Wichita Falls, TX; children: Mark Young and wife Lynda of Jarrell, TX; Laurie Young of Wichita Falls, TX; Steve Young and wife Kelly of Houston, TX; Sherrie Davis and husband John of Flower Mound, TX; Jan Darrow and husband Gary of Euless, TX; and Lisa Montemayor and husband Omar of Wichita Falls, TX; grandchildren: Dr. Rachel Davis Everson and husband Micah of Flower Mound, TX; Aaron Young and wife Michelle of Wylie, TX; Lisa Gillespie of Fort Worth, TX; Jamie Martin and husband, Dr. Nick Martin of Park City, KS; Amy Young of Los Angeles, CA; Shawn Gillespie of Irving, TX; Paul Montemayor, Dallas, TX, and Emily Montemayor of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren Rai and Jocelyn Young of Wylie, TX and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
