Norman S. Nickerson, 80, died on Sunday, August 17, 2003 in Walsenburg, CO. He was born September 17, 1922, the son of Fred and Freda Nickerson in East Providence, RI. Lavelle, his wife of 48 years, preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Bizyak and husband, John of Raton; son, Don Nickerson and wife, Kathy of Rio Rancho; granddaughter, JoAnn Romero of Bosque Farms; grandsons, Nate and Paul of Rio Rancho; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Nickerson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. In 1965, he retired from the U.S.A.F. and went to work for Chromalloy in Oklahoma City, OK from which he retired in 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Nickerson then moved to Albuquerque where Norman was a volunteer at Lovelace Medical Center for several years; a member of the Young-at-Heart Choir; and a member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. Norman moved to Raton in 1996 and then to the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Walsenburg, CO in 1997. Services will be held Friday, August 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
