Revelstoke, BC

The death occurred very suddenly on Tuesday, March 11th, of Mrs. Alex. McRae, Sr., at the home of her daughter Mrs. Estey, in Chase, B.C. Only last week Mrs. McRae was in Revelstoke enjoying a short visit with her sons and daughters here before removing to Chase. At that time she was in perfect health but a cold developing into pneumonia carried her off in a few days, as on account of her age, 75 years, her system was unable to resist the disease. The remains were brought to this city the home of her eldest son, Mr. Alex. McRae, on Thursday.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. W. Stevenson, at 10 o'clock on Friday morning. Rev. W. C. Calder, who had been Mrs. McRae's pastor, when she lived here, led in a beautiful prayer. Mrs. Bews and Mrs. Kellie Sang a duet "shall we Meet Beyond the River," with deeply touching effect. The casket and hearse were covered with a wealth of magnificent floral offering. All the family were present at the funeral as well as a large number of old friends.

The late Mrs. McRae, was born in LaChute, Quebec in 1838, but lived most of her married life in Glengary county, Ontario where her ten children were born. Her husband died 25 years ago, but Mrs. McRae continued to live in the old home until five years ago, when she removed to Revelstoke and later to Nelson, to live with Mrs. Estey. She was of a kindly, genial disposition which made her a much beloved mother and won her may friends wherever she lived. She leaves six sons and two daughters. The sons are Alexander, Kenneth and James of Revelstoke; Thomas of Fairbanks, Alaska; Murdock and J. W. of Vancouver. The daughters are Mrs. Thos. Bain of Revelstoke, and Mrs. Estey, of Chase, B.C.
