Ronald W. "Ronnie" Liles


Ronald ("Ronnie") Wyatt Liles, 86, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Arlington, Virginia following a brief illness. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his family and had the opportunity to visit with each of his five grandchildren before he died. Ronnie Liles was a long-time resident of Baytown, Texas before moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina to be closer to family.

He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, in 1930 to parents J. Robert and Elizabeth Liles. He grew up in Conroe, Texas and received a degree in History from Sam Houston State University. He spent most of his life in the oil and gas industry, retiring from Exxon in 1994. After retirement, Ronnie traveled extensively overseas.

Ronnie was a history buff with a special interest in Texas history. Over his lifetime, he amassed one of the largest collections of Texana held in a private collection. He was a member of the Masons and especially enjoyed his time spent as a Shriner, raising money to provide charitable support for children receiving care and treatment at Shriner Hospitals around the country.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Cason Liles. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Martin of Niceville, Florida, and his son, Robert W. Liles, of Arlington, Virginia. Ronnie also leaves his sister Connie Rogers of The Woodlands, Texas, and his brothers Stephen Liles of Conroe, Texas and Joseph ("Joe") Liles of Houston, Texas. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Robert Saltaformaggio, Olivia Martin, Gabriella Martin, Hunter Liles and Cason Liles. Survivors also include many beloved nieces and nephews.

A private interment will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ronnie's memory to , 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030.
