Mitchell “Dean” Whitworth passed peacefully into the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 18, 2017. Born in Bloomburg, Texas, Dean was the first son of Roy and Marie Whitworth.

He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II (Rank SM2). After his discharge, Dean began his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad in Ritzville and continued his employment with the Burlington Northern. He was the station agent first in Grandview and then in Yakima. He retired from the BN in 1983. After a brief retirement, Dean joined Washington Mutual as the parking lot attendant. He was the face of the bank greeting bank customers daily with a warm hello and humor. His respect of people and love of life was warmly felt by all that met him.

After retiring from the bank at the age of 85, Dean moved with his wife Margaret to Puyallup where he passed on at the age of 92.

He is survived by Margaret, his beloved wife of 66 years, and his two daughters, Cheryl Roy (Denis) and Pam Burwell (Stan). He was also the proud and cherished grandfather of Jeremy Roy (Linnea), Stephanie Wall (Mike), and Kellen Burwell, as well as four great grandchildren, Hayden, Hattie, Peyton, and Aspen.

A funeral mass will be held on January 30, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery.
