Aloysius "Al" Tennessen, 84, died October 14, 2012 at his home in Sioux Falls.

Al was born December 7th, 1927 near Lismore,Minnesota to Alphonse and Helen Tennessen.Al graduated from St. Anthony High School, Lismore, Minnesota in 1947.After high school, he worked as a farmhand for a Minnesota farmer beforemoving to Sioux Falls and working as a farmhand for local farmers. Alworked as a mechanic for several mechanic shops before settling down forthirty-three years at Sheehan Equipment. Following a successful career asa diesel mechanic and shop foreman, Al wasn't ready for retirement, so hewent to work for HyVee for nearly ten years delivering flowers.

He met his future wife at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls in January1954. They were married on April, 27, 1955 at St. Joseph's Cathedral.

Always a hard working and humble man. He lived his life as an example for hischildren, grandchildren, and others who knew him. Al has enjoyed manythings during his life, including home building projects, going to polkadances, hanging out with his grandchildren, camping, and fishing. He alsoenjoyed an occasional cigar while sitting outside during spells of pleasantweather.Al couldn't go many places around Sioux Falls without greeting or beinggreeted by acquaintances. He met many of them through his work atSheehan's and delivering floweres at HyVee. Al was also a volunteerfirefighter for the Wayne Township Fire Department for more than twentyyears.

Al is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Ann (Siemonsma),children, David (Valerie) Camarillo, CA, Kathy (Tim) Weber, Brandon, Tom,Louisville, CO, Tim (Cindy), Lyons, Steve (Yoryina), Meridian, Idaho,Denise (Tony) McGraw, Sioux Falls, and Eric (Kaylee), Camarillo, CA. Al issurvived by sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is alsosurvived by two honorary children, Jerry Kramer and Lisa Kramer Lundeen.Al is also survived by his siblings, Mertz Vortherms, Ruthton, MN, RoselynVortherms, Sioux Falls, Jeanette (Alfred) Henning, Worthington, MN, Bob(Chris), Minneapolis, MN, and Jim (Kay), Minneapolis, MN.

Al waspreceded in death by his parents, sister, Theresa, and one grandson,Jeremiah.

Visitation will begin at 2:00pm Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Heritage Funeral Home. Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm with a wake service followed by a rosary at 7:00pm in our chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Cathedral with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. A reception lunch will follow the burial at St. Joseph's Cathedral hall.
