BROCTON — Joan Corrine Bertrando, age 86, formerly of Lake Avenue, Brocton, NY, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center of Dunkirk, NY, with her family at her side.

Joan was born on July 14, 1930 in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Albert and Rose (Wisnewski) Scholtes. She married Frederick F. Bertrando on October 24, 1953 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Dunkirk. Mr. Bertrando preceded her in death on August 5, 2008.

A Brocton resident most all her life, Joan was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and had been a stay- at-home mom who enjoyed raising her family and caring for them. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening, both floral and vegetable.

Survivors include her two sons, Frederick G. (Chris) Bertrando of Westfield, NY and David A. (Allison) Bertrando of Gilbert, AZ. Joan was the proud grandmother of Tammy (Kevin) Lancaster of Surprise, AZ, Nicholas (Eileen) Bertrando of Fredonia, NY, Amy (Jake) Hitchcock of Mayville, NY, Hannah Bertrando of Santa Clara, CA and Lucas Bertrando of Tucson, AZ.

She was also the very proud great-grandmother of Taylor and Alyssa Lancaster of Surprise, AZ, and Connor Jacob and Peyton Rose Hitchcock of Mayville, NY.

Besides her husband Frederick, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Albert “Dutch” Scholtes.

Friends may call on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, 15 Central Ave., Brocton, NY with Father Joseph Walter officiating. Burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.

A Parish Rosary Service and Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, 15 Central Ave., Brocton, NY 14716.
