She was born March 29, 1919 to Erving W. and Annie (Laughlin) Bourassa in Wanette, Oklahoma.
Eva was raised in Wanette where she attended Wanette Public Schools and was a graduate of Wanette High School. After high school Eva attended Oklahoma A. & M.
She later moved to California where she began and raised her family. Eva attended night school while raising her 2 daughters and earned her law degree and passed the California State Bar Exam.
She later met John Smith and they were married on October 11, 1969 in Carson City, Nevada and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1989. After John’s retirement they moved back to Wanette where she was raised and she lived there for 30 years after John’s passing before returning back to California.
Eva worked as the Assistant Superintendent at Juvenile Hall in Stockton, California, as a Probation Officer and presided over Juvenile Court Cases until her retirement.
She loved to travel and visited California, New Mexico and Washington States. Eva also enjoyed doing needle point.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smith; parents; 2 sisters, Lazelle Webb and Lucille Lewis; and brother, Dahl Bourassa.
Eva is survived by her 2 daughters, Shirley Penney of McLoud, OK and Barbara Emerick-Kosinski and husband, Alan of Pine Grove, CA; 4 grandchildren, Sandra and John Tyszkiewicz, Terry LaRock, Dawn McClure and Steve Weisman; many great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mable Bourassa of Wanette, OK; and other loving family and friends.
Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Wanette Cemetery with Franklin Sturgill officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
