Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Mattie F. Sherrod, age 92 of Midville, GA on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Azalea Health & Rehab in Metter, GA.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Union Grove United Methodist Church, 1168 Herdon Road, Midville, GA 30441, with Rev. Randy Carnley and Rev. Lee Pettis officiating.
Interment will follow in the Union Grove United Methodish Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM
Mrs. Sherrod will lie in state one hour prior to service.
Pallbearers are Joey Burch, Carson Cross, Bailey Joiner, Gary Spence, Johnny Hurst, and LLoyd Sherrod.
Honorary Pallbearers are Union Grove United Methodist Church Board Members
Mrs. Sherrod was born on January 30, 1924 in Swainsboro, GA to the late Troy and Willa Mea Harbuck Farthing Sr. She was retired from Argo Mills after many years and was a lifetime member of the Union Grove United Methodist. Mattie was a homemaker, loved gardening, flowers, fishing, and cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Lawrence L. Sherrod, three sisters, Mary Morris, Lois Lewis, and Ruby Bullard and three brothers, David Farthing, Richard Farthing, and Henry Troy Farthing Jr.
Survivors include:
One Daughter: Melva Dean Cadwell (Jerry C.) of Cobbtown, GA
One Son: Floyd Sherrod (Martha) of Hephzibah, GA
Seven Grandchildren: Tonya Cadwell, Pamela Cadwell Davis (Brock), Brenda Holland (Donnie), Greg Sherrod (Tina), Tyson Sherrod (Stacey), Rodney Walker, Russell Walker (Brooke).
Eleven Great Grandchildren: Brant Davis, Wes Jenkins (Lacey), Marlee Jenkins, Clayton Sherrod, Brandon Sherrod, Dalton Sherrod, Aaron Sherrod, Jarrett Walker, Tucker Walker, Mason Walker, and Damon Walker.
