Ira, a resident of Albuquerque, was survived by his wife Nelda F. Gideon of Albuquerque; daughters: Arlena Crandell (husband Fred) of Benton, Kansas and Cherie Berg (husband Brian) of Cascade, Montana; son Alan Gideon (wife Julie) of Ashburn, Virginia; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers: Bill J. Gideon of Webb City, Missouri, Elmer Gideon of Cleveland, Ohio, and James Gideon of Anderson, Missouri.

Ira married Nelda Farnsworth in 1942. He lived in Great Bend, Kansas following discharge from the US Navy in December 1945. He worked as mechanic in Great Bend, Kansas, Roswell, New Mexico, and Albuquerque.

Services were held 12 May 2000 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
