He was the son of Francis Wells and Susanna [(Allen)] Welch (widow of Ebenezer). He was b. Cambridge Farms, 23 May 1754; and d. Boston, 30 Oct 1799. He was comm[issioned] 2nd Lieut. in Knox's art. reg. 1 January 1776; Captain in Crane's art. reg. 1778; and left the army in 1780, after the service of 5 years and 3 months. Became a member of the society in 1788. His father was Francis Wells, son of Francis and Mildread, b. Lond., 8 Apr. 1691, m2. Susannah, daughter of John and Elizabeth Allen of Boston. He came to Boston with his first wife, Mary Elton, and three children in the ship "Hampstead Gally", of which he was master and owner, arriving 12 Aug. 1723. Elizabeth, his daughter, married Gov. Samuel Adams. Their daughter Hannah, toward the close of 1780, was m. to Capt. Thomas Wells. Their Children: Elizabeth, m. Dr. John Randall of Stowe, Mass., and had Elizabeth, John, Belinda, Maria, and Anna.

Note: Capt. Ebenezer Welch m. 10 Aug 1732 to Susanna Allen, he died at sea/Jamaica bef 10 Jun 1734. It was Susanna Allen who m2. on 4 Apr 1735 to Thomas Wells. Thomas Wells only married once.
