Georgia Sophia Mercier, 73, of Massillon passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. She was born September 4, 1943 in Canton, Ohio to the late Thomas and Mary Housos.
Sophia retired from Norfolk Southern Rail Road as a supervisor after 35 years of service.
Sophia enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, Scrabble, words with friends and spending time with all of her grandchildren.
She had a warm heart and would always be willing to help someone in need.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Slingluff.
Sophia is survived by her daughter, Michelle Reese; son, Neil Mercier; grandchildren, Ethan, Austin and Alexis Reese, Brandon and Bradley Mercier; sisters, Nancy Byrd, Patricia (Ray) Warner, Jean (Lester) Housos-Powell, and Tammy (Jim) Vail; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Linda Parks.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW North Canton, Ohio 44720 from 2pm to 4pm with a Trisagion Prayer at 2pm. Additional calling hours will be on Monday, January 16, 2017 at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, 251 25th St. NW Canton, Ohio 44709 from 10:30am until time of funeral service at 11am with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
