Richard graduated in 1952 from Saint Paris High School and served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service. He then went to work for DFAS as a mechanic and worked in Columbus and Greenville. Gene was a member of Keith Creators American Legion Post 148, St. Paris and the Masonic Lodge in Bellefontaine. His was also a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association where he served as a judge for 30 years and as vice president for 4 years.
