Son of John Ralph Carr-Ellison and his first wife, Emily Anne Watts Stockley (1835 - 1887).
Corfu, where he was born, was a British protectorate (United State of the Ionian Islands) from 1815 - 1864.
On 28th February 1893 he married Alice Mary Campbell, the youngest child of Archibald Campbell, Captain of the 42nd Highlanders, and his second wife, Christina Maclaren.
He served in the Anglo-Boer War and was present at the Relief of Ladysmith. He was "Mentioned in Dispatches" twice.
He served in the Great War. He was "Mentioned in Dispatches" and awarded the CMG - Commander of The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael & St George.
