On tomb:

"Near this Place lieth Interrd the body of Richard Sherburne of Stanihurth

in the County Palatine of Lancaster Es__ Son & Heir to Richard Sherburne

of Stanihurst Es__ that died Apr. 17th A. 1629 AEtat 82. ( by Catherine

his wife Daughter of Charles Lord Stourton and Neice to the Right-

Honble Henry (Stanley) Earl of Derby etca) and Grandson to Sir Richard

Sherburne of Stanihurst who for his fignal Military Service against y

Scots had the Honor of Knighthood conferrd upon him (being then but

21 years old) under the Banner Royal of England at Leigh by Edward

Seymour, Earl of Hertford General of the English in that Expediton

May 11th A 1 5 4 4 3 6. Hen 8 w ch firft Richard Married two wives

by Elizabeth Daughter to Sir Richard Molinevx of Sephton in Com.

Lanc. Bart. his first Wife he had only a Daughter Elizabeth who ~

died young. His second Wife was Elizabeth Daughter to Thomas

Walmrsley of Dunkenhalgh in the fame County Es__ & by her he had

issue, Eleanor that decasd an Infant Richard his Son & Heir and Ann

wedded to Sir Marmaduke Constable of Everingham in Com Ebor Bar.

He was an Eminent Sufferer for his Loyal Fidelity to King

Charles the I of ever Blessed Memory and departed

this life Febr. 11th A Dom. 1667 aged 81 years."
