Marvin was born in Livingston, Tennessee, April 27, 1930, to Lloyd and Lillie Cherry Daniel. His family moved to Illinois during the great depression where he attended the Crossville school system. In 1948, Marvin joined the Navy and served as a torpedo man where he was involved in the Invasion of Inchon. In 1952, with an honorable discharge, he left the Navy and returned to Carmi Illinois where he married Emma. He used his GI Bill to study auto-body under the tutelage of his father in law, Robert Chastain. He then became the proprietor of Crossville Body Shop where he rebuilt cars, had a car wash and ran a wrecker service. During this time he developed many lifelong friends. In 1985 he sold his business to move to Jasper, Texas to be close to his oldest son, Keith. He then worked for the Chevrolet dealership as a Body Shop manager in Jasper. At 62 years of age he retired. The last 6 months of his life he and his wife resided in Conroe with his youngest daughter, Kara and her family. Marvin attended First Assembly of God Church in Jasper.
Marvin had a love for fishing, gardening, and having family and friends over for fish fries. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and each knew him as “peepaw”. Marvin was an engineer at heart and in his retirement years, he used his carpentry and crafting skills for the benefit of his children as an expression of his love. Many of their home projects can be seen in their homes today.
