Col. Aaron M. Austin was the son of Dr. Nathaniel and Abigail Hovey Austin.

Aaron M. Austin married Elizbeth Spencer November 28 1744 in Suffield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. To this union the couple had eight children: Aaron, Samuel, Serenius, Nathaniel, Ms. Rachel Austin, Eusebeus, Eliphalet and Roswell Austin.

Aaron M. Austin served as an officer in the Connecticut Milita during the Revolutionary War, achieving the rank of Lt. Col.
