OBIT:

Charles A. Charlton died October 8 at his home in Echo Valley, six miles north of Colville, of pneumonia. Mr. Charlton was born in Virginia in 1829 and at the time of his demise was 84 years and 4 months of age.

He came to California in 1849 and after the gold excitement there had subsided moved with his family to Oregon. His widow, three sons, and two daughters, all grown, survive. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Masons and Odd Fellows and also of the Stevens County Pioneer Association.

The remains were transferred to Ellensburg for interment. A short funeral service was held here by the Rev. G. H. Rice of the Congregational Church.

Charles A. Charlton died a few days ago in Colville and was buried here on Saturday. He was 84 years of age, and having lived here for many years had a wide circle of acquaintances.

He has three daughters in the valley, Mrs. J. E. Burke, Mrs. Clifton and Mrs. Oliver Geddis. His home was for many years in the northeast corner of the valley.
