John was the son of Richard and Eliza Martin? Banfield of England and had immigrated in 1868/1871. He was a sampler in an iron ore mine. In 1880, the family is in Jeddo, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and his father is widowed. John married Catharine Roberts on 28 September 1889 in Norway, Michigan. On 4 May 1893 he married Edith Knight, and they had John Roy (1895-1895), Arvil P.(1901-1901), Zella, and Gladys. John died from influenza, typhoid fever and pneumonia with epilepsy contributing.
