ROCK VALLEY, Iowa | Sharon Vande Weerd, 60, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Rock Valley, IA: Sharon Vande Weerd, 60, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Mike Molenaar officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Friday, January 13, at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Sharon Kay Vande Weerd, daughter of Jack and Jennie (Smidstra) Vande Weerd, was born August 12, 1956 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Sharon graduated from Rock Valley High School and went on to receive her LPN from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. Sharon worked as an LPN for nearly 30 years at Valley Manor (Whispering Heights) in Rock Valley. She finished the last few years of her career working at Universal Pediatrics in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Sharon had a special love for her nieces, nephews, and little kids in general. She was like a second mom to several of her nieces and nephews. She loved attending their activities when she could. Sharon also enjoyed crocheting, country western music, reading, and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. She was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

She is survived by her 5 siblings, John (Noreen) Vande Weerd of Orange City, Iowa, Carol (Dennis) Doherty of Inwood, Iowa, Gloria (Brad) Koele of Moville, Iowa, Gary (Elaine) Vande Weerd of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Tom (Jody) Vande Weerd of Rock Rapids, Iowa; 3 step-siblings, Ron (Helen) Vande Weerd of Jacksonville, Florida, Alan (Emilie) Vande Weerd of Sac City, Iowa, and Bonnie (Rod) Kooima of Inwood; and several nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Jennie Vande Weerd; step-mother, Alice Vande Weerd; step-sister Dorothy (Henry) Sage; and nephew, Travis Doherty.
