Alva is survived by two step-children: Sharon Wilfong of Fairmont and Stephen Irvine of Rossville, GA; two sisters: Betty Ross and husband Leonard of Flemington and Elnora Trader of Tallahassee, FL; two brothers: Charles Knight and wife Barbara of Barberton, OH and Arthur Knight and wife Carolyn of Flemington; three step- grandchildren: Tim Wilfong and wife Kimberly, Toby Wilfong and wife Kami, and Tyler Wilfong; and two great-grandchildren: Ben and Julie Wilfong. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews including two special nieces who were dear to his heart, Patricia Ross and Ruby Jo Knight.
In addition to his parents Alva was preceded in death by his wife, Norma L. Knight on September 9, 1997; one sister, Agnes L. Rollison; and one brother, Robert Knight.
Alva, or “Jr” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Flemington High School and then served his country in the United States Army. He retired after 35 years of service with Glory Mining Company in Lumberport, as a mechanic. Alva was also a member of the Astor United Methodist Church.
Friends and family will be received at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home in Flemington, WV, on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4 until 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Flemington I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
