Charlotte, N.C. - Eugenia "Jean" Hardin Keitt, 92, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017. Born February 24, 1924 in Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Boyd Shell Hill and Caroline Darby Hill. Mrs. Keitt attended Furman University in Greenville, S.C., and became the personal secretary of the Ninth Air Force Base. Mrs. Keitt was a Social Worker at The Children's Home Society, placing children in their new home with their adoptive families. She volunteered at The Charity League and The Red Cross and was a member of Carolina Golf and Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., where she was an avid golfer. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. Jean loved to knit and to needlepoint, especially for her great-grandchildren. She loved to have her friends over and play bridge and was a gourmet cook. She was a debutante and a classy southern lady who loved Frank Sinatra and to dance. Jean was an avid Clemson football fan, as she and her late husband were season ticket holders and never missed a game. Mrs. Keitt is survived by her daughter, Eugenia Keitt McCormick; two granddaughters and their families, Darby McCormick Johnson, her husband Randy and their children, Hailey Ann, Karley Jean and Audrey Rose, as well as her granddaughter Caroline Keitt Courtney, her husband Jeff and their children, Abigail Marie and Mark Hardin. Jean was preceded in death by Bernard Hardin Keitt, her husband, and Maribel Hill Lewis, her sister. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Lisa Saunders officiating. Interment will be Friday, January 13, 2017 at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, S.C. The reception will follow immediately after the funeral service in the Blue Room at Christ Episcopal Church.
