Grace A. Baxter was the first child to Elisha and Nancy (Rule) Baxter. She was born on April 12, 1905 in Winslow, Arkansas, and spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma with her many brothers and sisters. Grace was the mother of six children, including a stepson. Her 56-year marriage to Roy E. Monks lasted until his death in 1984. Her mother and father also preceded her in death.

"Granny" Grace was survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted many large reunions at the family home in Shady Point in Leflore County, Oklahoma. She was surrounded by many family and friends at the time of her death in 1986.
