WINSTON-SALEM - Reid Claude Williams, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. He was born August 23, 1924 in Fallston, NC to Lemuel and Mattie Dixon Williams. Mr. Williams served his country as a lieutenant in the Navy during WWII. He taught physics and chemistry and coached basketball and football at Old Town High School. He retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb with over 40 years of service. He was a true southern gentleman who never met a stranger. He loved Duke basketball and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Hazel Doub Williams; his daughter, Karen Vellucci and husband Rich of Winston-Salem; Grandchildren, Amanda Hobbs and husband Carey of Clemmons, Matt Vellucci and fianc? Jessica Aylward of Richmond, Va.; Soon to be great-grandson; Brother Dorman Williams and wife Sarah of Pulaski, Va. A special thanks to his caregiver, Crystal Inscore for her care and concern. His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. The Revs. Mark Key and Gary Mahathey will officiate. A reception celebrating his life will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Tabor UMC or the American Heart Association.
