Devoted Wife and Mother
Our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed from this life January 8, 2017, into another, cherished by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her friends, her neighbors, and those who so willingly served her in these last years. She joins her beloved husband Dean Wilson Bateman; a son Wayne and his wife Ranae; a grandson Brian; and a great-grandson Gabriel.
Sybil was born January 12, 1923, daughter of Dixon Ezra and Azua Bean Greer. She was raised in Salt Lake City and the Cottonwood area, what was then known as Union. She graduated from Jordan High School where she excelled and was at the top of her secretarial courses, and put those skills to use throughout her life. She began her employment as the secretary at Utah Poultry in Midvale, Utah (now housing the antiques business called Home Again). She met Dean there and they were married on September 1, 1942. She was the quintessential farmer's wife; cleaning, canning, mending, ironing, and preparing without fail, three meals a day. Her work never ended, and she raised her five children to know the value of hard work and the importance of strong and lasting moral values. When her children were well into junior high and high school, Sybil returned to the workplace and was the secretary at the LDS Records Vault in Little Cottonwood Canyon. She considered this employment a most desirable position and she acquired life-long friends there.
Sybil was a dedicated, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she served in many positions in the church, but her favorite was always teaching. She was a superb Gospel Doctrine teacher for many years. She and Dean were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 18, 1973. They later served an office mission in Baton Rouge, Louisiana - more great use of those secretarial skills! She was the mission president's executive secretary.
She is survived by her sons Kent (Sharon) and Lynn (Gail); daughters Brenda (Gary) Jeppson and Diana (Ralph) Parker; 30 of her grandchildren and their spouses; and a wonderful and numerous posterity of great and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14th, 12:00 noon, at River 5th Ward, 1380 West 6785 South. Viewings will be held, Friday, January 13th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again prior to services at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.

These companies served Sybil and her family members with compassion, professionalism and friendship. Without them, we could not have fulfilled our service to our mother.
