Lewis Coleman Jones, 74, of Butner, died Friday night at 8 o’clock following 35 years of illness, one month of which was critical. A native of Cascade, Va., Mr. Jones was the son of the late Henry Ervin and Lula Ann Allen Jones. He was the husband of Mrs. Irene Land Jones, who survives. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Russell Jones of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Aubrey Lee Jones, John Y. Jones, both of Burlington, and Ervin Jones of Reidsville; and five sister, Mrs. Mary Zachary and Mrs. Lizzie Wagoner, both of Burlington, Mrs. Rosie Pickrell of Rt. 1, Brown Summit, Mrs. Hattie Tickle of Danville, Va., and Mrs. Bessie Chumley of Pelham. Final rites will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Hall Jr., pastor of Freedom Baptist Church, and the Rev. William Cobb, pastor of Victory Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. The body will remain at Strickland Funeral Home through the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o’clock.
