On the 1st day of January 1863, Pvt Alvin Beaman died of an illness. He was first buried at Holly Springs, Mississippi. At a later date, Alvin was disinterred and reburied at Corinth National Cemetery. When Alvin and many others were disinterred, names and dates were written in chalk on each coffin. While being transported from Holly Springs, Mississippi , rain washed away the names of many soldiers. They were then buried at Corinth National Cemetery in unmarked graves.
