Mr. Akins was a retired Line Foreman for SWEPCO. He lived in Shreveport before moving to Monroe. He was a member of Ford Park Baptist Church. He was past president of LU #329 I.B.T.E.W., life member of VFW Post 4588, member of 12th District Dept of LA VFW Honor Guard, and member of Right to Life. He was a WWII veteran with service in the 82nd Airborne Division in Normandy, Holland, The Battle of the Bulge, and Germany. He was a life member of 505 R.C.T. Airborne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Akins; his son, Freddy Akins; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Akins; his brother, Harold Akins; his sister, Marveleen Davis; and his parents.
