Charles L. Doudna Sr., 75, Chanute, KS, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute. He was born in Kansas City, MO. on Dec. 24, 1930, the son of Oliver Kenneth and Ollie May Green-Doudna. He attended elementary school in Lynn County schools, Osage County Township High School, and graduated from Fontana in the Class of 1948. He had been a resident of Chanute since 1949. He was united in marriage to Ima Jean Nelson on Nov. 11, 1950 in Bolivar, MO. She survives, of the home. He worked for construction, telephone and power companies from Ottawa and Mound City from 1948-49. In 1949 he moved to Erie and worked for Drew Construction until 1950. He then worked one year in the BEA CO-OP in Iola. He worked for the City of Chanute electric department from 1952-94. He was distribution supervisor from 1976 until his retirement, after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Vilas Bethel Lutheran Church until the church closed Feb. 9, 2003 and was currently a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute. Other survivors include four daughters, Rhonda Peck and husband, David, Yates Center, KS, Debi Atwood and husband, John, Osawatomie, KS, Sandy Alonzo and husband, Nick, Chanute, KS, Lana Laver and husband, Dean, Iola, KS; a son, Charles Doudna Jr., and wife, Diane, Augusta; grandchildren Dawn Stecklein and husband, Doug, Olathe, KS, Tony Peck and wife, Sonya, Owasso, OK, Angie Snyder and husband, Will, Ft. Meyer, FL, Kim Hett and husband, Phil, Baldwin City, KS, Johnny Atwood and wife, Amy, Osawatomie, KS, Lainey Doudna and Aaron Doudna, both of Augusta, KS; great-grandchildren Aidan Atwood, Osawatomie, KS, and Reece Stecklein, Olathe, KS; two sisters, Jane Amos, Moran, KS, and Ruth Gray, Jacksonville, AR; a brother, William "Bill" Doudna, Olathe, KS; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, including Tony and Dora Parla, Raytown, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bernice Cornett; and two brothers, Carl Doudna and Larry Doudna.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, at the Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Vilas Bethel Cemetery, rural Chanute. Family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel. Memorials in his name may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or St. Patrick School Building Fund and left at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, 16 N. Forest, Chanute, KS 66720.
