American Civil War veteran.

Son of Cornelius and Eliza (Vreeland) Cadmus. Cornelius was born on August 23, 1813 and died on July 24, 1883 at Fayette, New York.

Peter married Laura Virginia Dechard.

"Mr. Cadmus was born in the township of Fayette in 1844. By occupation he was a wagon maker and had been retired since 1927, after a half century in business. When eighteen years old he enlisted in the 126th Regiment M. S. Vol, Company I at Geneva on August 15, 1862. The regiment was known as the "One Thousand Boys in Blue". He fought in the battle of Harper's Ferry on Sept. 13 to 15th and was discharged on December 23rd, 1862, owing to ill health. He afterwards re-enlisted in the 16th Heavy Artillery, Co. M, and served until the close of the war, being mustered out at Hart's Island, New York Harbor on August 23, 1865.

On March 31st, 1869 he was married to Miss Virginia Dechard of Washington, D. C. and to them were born four daughters; Kate who died in Infancy, another Kate who lived to womanhood, Etha, Mrs. Robert Spare, deceased and Jessie who is Mrs. Bert Fulmer, his only survivor. Mrs. Cadmus died on October 21, 1930." (Oct. 6, 1938, Geneva Daily Times)
