Virgil Holtman, 93, of Airville, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, in a Temple Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, with a Rosary recited at 4 p.m. at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Monsignor Elmer Holtman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Cyclone.

Virgil was born in Westphalia, Texas, to the late Albert Frederick and Josephine Witzsche Holtman. He lived in the Westphalia and Airville communities all of his life. Virgil graduated from Lott High School and married Marceline Zavodny on June 8, 1947. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and worked as a farmer and carpenter. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Westphalia VFW Post 6117 and the Cyclone Knights of Columbus Council # 10191.

He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, Jimmy Holtman and Patrick Holtman; brother, Monsignor Clyde Holtman; and a sister, Madeline Schneider.

Survivors include his sons, Tommy Holtman and wife, Donna, of Pendleton, and Bobby Holtman, of Iola; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
sisters: Carolyn Holtman, of Airville, Grace Hoelscher, of Westphalia, Joyce Greger, of Lott, Evelyn Hoelscher, of Waco, and Betty Ann Kleypas, of Temple; many other relatives and friends.
