Paul O. Martin

Paul O. Martin passed away on December 27, 2016 in Bakersfield, CA. He was born on May 3, 1935, the eldest child of Earle and Verda Martin in Phoenix, AZ. The family moved to Bakersfield, CA in the early 1940s. Paul attended grade school at Standard, and Graduated from EBHS in 1953. He worked for Griffith Photo and Gene Weiner Cadillac before joining the Kern County Sheriffs Department and the US Naval Reserve, retiring from both after 30+ years of service in each.

He was a long time member of the LDS church. He was a long time volunteer for the Kern County Search and Rescue. He also volunteered thousands of hours of his time to BARC, the Special Olympics, and to CALM. He also devoted countless hours helping family, friends, and church members without asking for anything in return.

He was preceded in death by Parents Earle and Verda Martin, sister Patricia Horne, brother Micheal Martin, daughter Denise Martin, in-laws Deral and Angeline Burgess, and brother-in-law Anthony Hatch. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Rowena Burgess Martin, sister Marsha Stepp and her husband Craig, sons David, Donald, and Deral Martin, daughter Debra Bell and her husband Tim, and only grandchild Sara Denise Bell. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Kathie Hatch, Norma Coddington and husband Chris, and brother-in-law Wayne Burgess and wife Julie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A viewing will be held from 11:45am-12:45pm on Saturday, January 7, 2017 and services will be held at 1:00 pm, January 7, 2017 at the LDS Stake Center at 5600 Panorama Dr. The burial service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.
