YOUNGSTOWN - Phyllis J. Novak, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Canfield Place Senior Living.
Phyllis was born on Nov. 8, 1928, in Ringgold, Pa., the daughter of the late Melvin and Dorothy (Hinderliter) Snyder.
Phyllis’ employment included American Greeting in Cleveland on the assembly line. After the family moved to Lordstown, Phyllis worked for a department store until her retirement.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed many hours reading her favorite books.
She is survived by her children, Patrick (Kathleen) Novak, of Austintown, Deborah Novak, of Strongsville, Linda Novak of Boardman, Laura (Ralph) Flowers of Cortland; and her sister, Mary Walz of Austintown. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jamie (Shannon) Novak, Matthew (Jamie) Miller-Novak, and Cara Leigh; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Nolan and Jenna.
Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick F. Novak, whom she married on Nov. 8, 1947. Patrick died on Aug. 16, 2005, after 58 years of marriage. Two sisters, Margie Bican and Dolores Miller, also preceded her in death.
There will be no calling hours, per her wishes.
Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Mahoning County Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
Care was entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel.
