Daniel Leslie “Cowboy” Cole, age 73, resident of Oakland and husband of the late Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue Cole, departed this life Thursday evening, December 29, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Cole will be conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Perry Cemetery near Laconia. A visitation for Mr. Cole will be from 12 to 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Cole was born September 8, 1943 in Egremont, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Rolling Fork High School Class of 1962 and served in the United States Army National Guard as a young person. He was a resident of the District 15 area of Fayette County for 32 years and was married July 2, 1971 to the former Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue. Mr. Cole was of the Baptist faith and was a cattle horse farmer throughout his life. He enjoyed roping and riding horses, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Belle “Gabby” Purdue Cole who died May 22, 2015; his parents, Harry Conrad Cole, Sr. and Blanch Beatrice Sanderford Cole; two brothers, Wayne Cole, Jimmy Cole; and his grandson, Matthew Dillon Cole.
