Philip married Mary Brishchuk in Feb of 1907 and proceeded to work their homestead N.W. 1/4 Sec 14, Tp 27, Rg 1, West of 2nd Meridian. Bush was cleared and land was broken and roots and stones had to be picked. The famlies first house was a small log one with a thatched roof. There was a loft beside the large plastered chimney. Here the children slept as many as five to a bed, their mattress was a straw filled and kind of lumpy. The mud plastered chimney retained a lot of heat , so in the winter months, the children would huddle beside it for comfort.
